Franklin Educational Services seeks to engage, educate, and empower students with individualized instruction that promotes intellectual and personal growth and instills a passion for learning.   At Franklin, we take a strength and relationship based approach to learning that’s rooted in attachment theory. By building positive and collaborative relationships with each student, our gifted instructors optimize learning outcomes while promoting skill development and motivation.

In addition to drawing on Dr. Franklin’s over 25 years of experience as an educator, the Franklin approach draws on best practices in teaching and the latest findings in education, psychology, and neuroscience. Our one-on-one tutors address the changing needs of each student and make even the most challenging subject interesting and engaging.

According to Sam Wang, PhD, at Princeton University, objective measures of executive functions are more predictive of academic success than IQ tests.

Highly developed executive functions are essential for organization and responsibilities such as keeping track of assignments, managing time, and cleaning out backpacks. These tasks can be stumbling blocks for students whose executive function skills are slowly emerging.

At Franklin, our instructors establish collaborative organizational systems and time-management strategies with their students.   Our instructors provide modeling and scaffolding for our students so that as they work on homework and study for tests, they are also developing executive function skills that are essential for long-term success.

The more we know about the brain, the more effective we are in helping students utilize it for optimal learning and development. At Franklin, we draw on concepts from the field of social neuroscience of education, which views the brain as a social organ and learning as the outcome of social interaction.

For many students, learning is most effective when it is approached through social interaction with a skilled adult. Franklin Certified Academic Managers® support students in the following areas:

Organization- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® use modelling and scaffolding to give students frequent opportunities to observe and engage in effective organization.

Time Management- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® collaborate with their students to develop individualized strategies to meet short-term and long-term goals.

Attention-

Bringing Attention to a Task- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® express genuine curiosity about each assignment in order to capture a student’s attention; they use a student’s strengths and interests to highlight the relevance of the assignment.

Shifting Attention at an Appropriate Time- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® recognize that student participation is critical for smooth transitions from one task to another.

Short-Term Memory- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® offer structured support to help students effectively process incoming information and organize their ideas.

Long-Term Memory- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® help students develop study skills and transfer information from short-term memory to long-term memory by using a variety of strategies, including kinesthetics, strong emotional imagery (emotional binding hypothesis), method of loci, memory palaces, consolidation, and multiple modalities.

Motivation and Effort- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® understand that motivation and effort are highly related; both can be promoted by helping students understand the value of their work and by developing individualized systems to measure success.

Emotional Regulation- Franklin Certified Academic Managers® model reflective thought processes and promote self-awareness to help students contend with the demands of school.

  • We have used Franklin Educational Services for seven years. We have three children with ADD and various degrees of learning challenges. Dr. Franklin has provided wonderful academic managers / tutors who have provided our kids with tools and strategies to excel despite their challenges. Dr. Franklin does an exceptional job screening and training his academic managers / tutors. Each one has gone above and beyond what we have expected.   • This past year, into the second half of the school semester our daughter was failing math.  We were puzzled by this because otherwise she’s a straight A student, but every test/quiz taken was a D or an F.  I should also mention she had math homework almost every night which would diligently be completed and turned in and received an A just for doing the work.  The teacher never reviews the homework so when we checked in with Jupiter Grades (she’s in public middle school), the system would show all A’s for homework and F’s and D’s on all tests and quizzes.  For whatever reason, our daughter was not absorbing the lessons being taught in class.  Facing an F in the subject and desperate for help we reached out to Franklin Education seeking a tutor.  I got a response almost immediately and after filling out some easy forms on-line and answering a few questions about our daughter academically, they matched us with the perfect tutor.  Our daughter immediately responded to her.  The tutor took the time to go over the math homework and explained how to solve the problems in a way that made logical sense.  After two sessions, our daughter aced her next test with an A+.  She ended up getting a B in the course which we will take, much better than an F, plus she had a long way to go since we were already deep into the second semester.  If we reached out earlier she would have earned an A+ in math.  We are counting on that A+ this next school year and Franklin Education and our beloved tutor will be by our daughter’s side again.
