What Is The
HSPT?
The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is an admission exam required for application to some Catholic high schools.
Keep in mind, if a student chooses to take the HSPT more than once, the lower score will be considered the final score for admission.
WHAT ARE THE HSPT
Sections?
Verbal
The Verbal Skills section tests basic synonyms and antonyms, analogies, logic-based questions, and verbal classifications.
Test takers have 16 minutes to answer 60-multiple choice questions.
Quantitative
The Quantitative Skills section tests number series, geometric and non-geometric comparisons, and number manipulations.
Test takers have 30 minutes to answer 52 multiple choice questions.
Reading
The Reading Comprehension section presents test takers with a series of passages that cover humanities, short nonfiction, and narrative passages. This section of the exam also tests a student’s knowledge of vocabulary.
Test takers have 25 minutes to answer 62 multiple choice questions.
Mathematics
The Mathematics section tests arithmetic, basic algebra, and geometry.
Test takers have 45 minutes to answer 64 multiple choice questions.
Language Skills
The Language Skills section tests capitalization, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
Test takers have 25 minutes to answer 60 multiple choice questions.

Register
Students taking the HSPT must register through their school. Because each school might have their own registration process, please contact the school where your test will be hosted.
